International Sculpture
Symposium 2004 in Vietnam
Hue.... the ancient imperial capital of
Vietnam
This sculpture
symposium took place from 10 May to 15 June 2004 along the bank of the Perfume
River in Hue, at the foot of the ancient Citadel.
After being selected
by the organizers, I had a bit of a trek trying to find sponsorship.
Eventually, thanks to a recommendation by the Cultural Attaché of the
Vietnamese Embassy in London, I was sponsored to this event by a generous
former boat people, now the Chairman of a Britain based company, Mr. Nam Pham,
of New World Fashion in London.
I created two different atworks in Hue.
A site specific sculpture installation entitled "The Maze of Love &
Friendship" and another sculpture entitled "Boat People".

the maze - before applying cement coating

installation
Vietnamese people loved this
concept of an interactive sculpture installation

and river rocks forming a pertinent symbol - one of four such circles on the
sides of the maze

ceramic fragments and river rock relief details
